Port Kembla Steelworks tour

What happens at Port Kembla steelworks?

We will alight at Coniston train station at 10 am where we will be met by a steelworks bus that will take us to the steelworks visitor centre.

Our Tour will start with the Making of Steel video a safety video and briefing before we  are fitted with the required PPE (audio headset, hard hat, gloves, positive seal glasses and dust jacket). There is additional information on clothing requirements below. after being fitted out, we will head to the bus to start the tour.
The Steelworks Tour takes approx. 3hr tour includes around 2-3km (collectively) of walking and around 200-300 (collectively) stairs throughout the tour, returning to the Visitor Centre to return the PPE. 

All participants should bring a bottle of water to take on the tour due to the duration and level of heat inside the plant. 

As a condition of entry all participants must adhere to the following tour clothing/footwear requirements:

• Fully enclosed comfortable nonslip footwear (e.g. sneakers/runners)

• Calf length socks (no ankle socks or invisible socks)

• Full length pants with no rips or splits (no shorts, tights, skirts or dresses)

• Mobile phone use is not permitted whilst on site
• .Numbers are limited, and a waitlist will be in operation.
• A booking has been made at the Coniston Hotel (order and pay separately) near Coniston station. We will catch the 2.30 pm train  back to Central Station, arriving 4pm
